Istighfaraat is a qasidah written by Sidi Abu Madyan Shuayb ibn al-Hussen al-Ansari ق, a great gnostic of Allah. Sidi Abu Madyan ق was the murshid (spiritual guide) of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Harazim ق who was the murshid of Sidi Abdussalam ibn Mashish ق who was the murshid of Imam Abul Hassan ash-Shadhili ق.

Qasidah: Seeking Forgiveness

1) In the name of Allah is the beginning for every honourable affair. All thanks and praise to Allah for what is in my hands and my aspirations.

2) I seek forgiveness from Allah, our Master and Creator from worshipers and those who blamed me.

3) I seek forgiveness from Allah, who runs ships in the darkness on currents and waves that clash in turmoil.

4) I seek forgiveness from Allah, The Deliverer of whoever seeks refuge with Him if he is inflicted by harm or by pain.

5) I seek forgiveness from Allah, The Forgiver of sin for whoever comes to Him broken, in humiliation and regret.

6) I seek forgiveness from Allah, The Concealer of flaws for those with faults, and their Savior from malice.

7) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for my hidden secret and for my apparent and for the swaying of my heart and for my smiling.

8) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for whatever I say and for my character and for my bad affairs and for my state and for my traits.

9) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for my speech, my deeds, my struggle and from my sickness.

10) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for my crimes and my slips, and for my major sins and my small faults.

11) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for what my hand committed of errors and for wherever my feet have set.

12) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for whatever I have not yet sowed with my hand, and whatever I have sowed since I came of age.

13) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for my saying “me” and “with me” and “for me” and “mine” and for my suspicions and for misunderstanding.

14) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for whatever I do not know and for whatever I knew and for whatever my pen wrote.

15) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for my sleep and for my slumber and for my wakefulness, and as long as I live I will hold fast to Him.

16) I seek forgiveness from Allah, in the day and the night, and from tomorrow before it appears from nothingness.

17) I seek forgiveness from Allah, for all that happened in my youth and from living till the age of greying and senility.

18) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as long as the winds blow and as long as clouds pour upon houses, and upon hills and reefs.

19) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as long as pilgrims read to sites that were honoured with their locals and the sacred sanctuary [Haram].

20) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as long as morning dawns and as long as birds sing tunes in the trees and the branches.

21) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as plenty as the count of letters in remembrance and what it contains of signs and of wisdom.

22) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as plenty as the creatures in the horizons of the world and earth that is known.

23) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as plenty as the count of plants and whatever the sea contains of bounties and the land contains of livestock.

24) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as plenty as the count of giving knowledge, and the clear and ambiguous.

25) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as plenty as the count of sands and what falls upon the world of rains.

26) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as plenty as the number of creatures of human, jinn, Arabs and non-Arabs.

27) I seek forgiveness from Allah, as plenty as the number of thoughts in the minds of those who possess intelligence, knowledge and wisdom.

28) I seek forgiveness from Allah, Glorified is He, our Creator who created us from among the creatures, and who created us from nothing.

29) I seek forgiveness from Allah, Glorified is He, our Sustainer before the created and the apportioned decree.

30) I seek forgiveness from Allah, Glorified is He, our Provider, The Bestower, The Benefactor, The Munificent, The One who is described as Generous.

31) I seek forgiveness from Allah, Glorified is He, who destroyed the ancient civilisations and other nations.

32) I seek forgiveness from Allah, Glorified is He, who bring us from death to life after the Greatest resurrection.

33) I seek forgiveness from Allah multiple times from what is thanks by the races and people

34) I seek forgiveness from Allah, which I do not count, He Praised Himself from before time.

35) I seek forgiveness from Allah, to forgive sins as a rebellious servant is pardoned with His Forbearance and Genorousity.

36) And forgive me for the greatest of my slips and the Day of Reckoning when I am still old.

37) And may blessings be upon the selected one from Mudar the best of mankind, for all who cried and all who smiled.

38) And upon his family, companions with salutation of peace from our Lord and all followers.

1) بِسمِ الله إِبِتدَائي في كُلِّ مُحترَمِي
وَالحَمدُللهِ في أيْدي و مُحتَلَمِي

2) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ مَوْلانا و خَالِقَنا
عَنِ العِبادِ [وَ] من سَوآتِ مُلْتَطَمِي

3) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ مُجْرِ الفُلكِ فِي الظُّلَمِ
مِنْ كُلِّ تَقْصِيرِنَا با لشُّكرِ دللنِّعَمِ

4) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ مُجْرِ الفُلكِ فِي الظُّلَمِ
مِنْ كُلِّ تَقْصِيرِنَا با لشُّكرِ دللنِّعَمِ

5) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ غَفَّارَ الذُّنُوبِ لِمَنْ
بِالاِنْكِسَارِ أَتَى وَ الذُّلِّ وَالنَّدَمِ

6) أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله مِنْ سِرِّي وَ مِنْ عَلَنِيٌ
أَهْلِ العُيُوبِ وَ مُنْجِيهِمْ مِنَ النَّقَمِ

7) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِنْ سِرِّىْ وَ مِنْ عَلَنِي
وَ مِنْ تَقَلُّبِ قَلبِى وَابْتِسَامِ فَمِى

8) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِن نُطْقِيْ وَ خُاُقِي
وَ [مِن] سَيِّآتِ شَأْنِي وَ مِنْ شَكَلِي وَ مِن شِيَمِيْ

9) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِن قَولي و مِن عَمَلِي
وَ مِن مُجاهَدَتِي جُهدِي وَ مِن سَأَمِي

10) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِن جَهْلي و من زَ لِلي
وَ مِن كَائِر آثامِي وَ مِن لَممِي

11) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِمَّا قَدْ جَنَتْهُ يَدِي|
مِنَ الخَطايا وَ مِمَّاقَدِمَتْ قَدَمِي

12) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِمَّا لم تَكُنْ كَسَبَتْ
كَفِّي وما اكْتَسَبْتُ فِي مَبْلَغِ الحُلُمِ

13) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِن قَوْلِي [أَنَا] و [مَعِي] و [لي]
و[عِنْدِي] و مِن ظَنّي و من فَهْمِي

14) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِمّا لَسْتُ أَعْلَمُهُ
وَما عَلِمْتُ وماحَرَّفْتْ بِالقَلَمِ

15) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِن نَوْمِي و مِن سُباتِي
ويَقْظَتي وبِهِ ماعِشْتُ مُعْتَصَمِي

16) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ في يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَتِهِ
و مِنْ غَدٍ قَبْلَ اَنْ يَبْدُو مِن العَدَمِ

17) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ مِمَّا كانَ في صِغَرِي
مِنَ الخِلاف لِعَصْرِ الشِّيبِ والهَرَمِ

18) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ ما هِبْتُ أَمانِيَهُ
وسَحَّتِ السُحُب في السَّاحاتِ الأُكُمِ

19) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ ما صَارَالحَجِيجُ إلى
مَعَا لَم صُرِّفَتْ بِا لحِّل والحَرَمِ

20) أَستَغْفِرُ اللهَ ما لاحَ ضِيَاءٌ وما
تَرَنمَّ الوُرقُ في الأَغصَانِ بِالنَّغَمِ

21) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ تَعْدادَالحُرُوفوما
في الذِكِّر مِن آيهٍ تُتْلَى و مِن حِكَمِ

22) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ تَعْدادَ الهَوامِّوما
في الأُفُقِ مِن عَالَمٍ والأَرْضِ مِنْ عَلَمِ

23) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ تَعْدادَالنَّباتِ و ما
في البِّر مِن غَنَمٍ والبَحرِ مِن نِعَمِ

24) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ تَعْدادَ في
صُدُورِ عِلْمٍ [و] مِن بادٍ ومُكْتَتَمِ

25) أَسْتَغِفْرُاللهَ تَعْدادَالرِّمالِ وَما
يَنْهَلُّ في عَالَم الدُّنِّيَا مِن الدِّيمِ

26) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ تَعْدادَالخَلائِقِ مِن
إِنْسٍ وجِنٍّ و مِن عُرْبٍ وَ مِن عَجَمِ

27) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ تَعْدادَالخواطِرفي
صُدُورِ أَهْلِ التُّقَ والحُكِم والحِكَمِ

28) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ جَلَّ اللهُ خَالِقُنا
بارِي البَرايَا و مُنْشِؤُنَا مِنَ العَدَمِ

29) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ جَلَّ اللهُ رازِقُنا
قَبْلَ المَوْجُودِ وقَدَّرَسَائِرَ القِسَمِ

30) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ لاتُحصَى لَهُ نِعَمٌ
المجْمِلُ المُفَضَّلُ المَوْصُوفُ بالكَرَمِ

31) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ جَلَّ اللهُ قا بِضُنا
مُفْني القُرُونِ و مُفْني سَائِر الأُمَمِ

32) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ جَلَّ اللهُ با عِثُنا
بَعْدَالمَمَاتِ و مُحْيِي الأَعْظُمِ الرُّمَمِ

33) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ أَضْعَا فًا مُضَاعَفَةً
مِمَّا ذُشكِرَتْ مِنَ الأَجْنَاسِ والنَّسَمِ

34) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ لاأُحْصِي عَلَيْهِ ثَنَى
أَثْنَى عَلى نَفْسِهِ مِن قَبْلُ القِدَمِ

35) أَسْتَغْفِرُاللهَ غَفَّارَ الذُّنُوب إِذَا
مَا العَبْدُ يَعْصَ عَفَا بِا الْحِلمِ والكَرَمِ

36) وَاغْفِرلي كَبائِرَ زَلاَّتِي و
يَوْمَ الحِساب إِذَا ما زَلَّتْ قَدَمِي

37) ثُمَّ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى المُخْتَارِ مِنْ مُضَرٍ
خَيْرِ البَرِيَّةِ مِنْ بَاكٍ وَمُبْتَسِمِ

38) والآلِي والصَّحْبِ والتَّسْلِيمُ
مِن رِبّنا و عَلى الأَتْبَاعِ كُلِّهِم
