Selawat Mashishiyyah - Sidi Abdussalam ibn Mashish ق
Sidi Abdussalam ibn Mashish (1140-1227 CE) is one of the great masters of the spiritual path of sufism, and was the spiritual guide of Imam Abul Hasan ash-Shadhili ق. Selawat Mashishiyyah which was written by Sidi Abdussalam ibn Mashish ق is read by initiates of the Shadhili tariqah after isya, silently and audibly, in private and public, individually and in congregation.
Imam Yusuf al-Nabahani ق mentions that in the recitation of Selawat Mashishiyyah are secrets and lights the reality of which are only known to Allah. By reciting this regularly one receives Divine Help and Lordly Openings. The reciter will receive truthfulness and sincerity, expansion of breast, ease of affairs, protection from Allah from every difficulty, problem and illness – both inward and outward.
اَلصَّلَاةُ الْمَشِيْشِيَّةُ
لسيدي عبد السلام بن مشيش
Selawat Mashishiyyah

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مَنْ مِنْهُ انْشَقَّتِ الْأَسْرَارُ
وَانْفَلَقَتِ الْأَنْوَارُ
وَفِيْهِ ارْتَقَتِ الْحَقَائِقُ
وَتَنَـزَّلَتْ عُلُوْمُ آدَمَ فَأَعْجَزَ الْخَلَائِقَ
Oh Allah, shower Your blessing upon him from whom burst open the secrets,
From whom the lights streams forth,
in whom ultimate realities arose,
upon whom descended the knowledge of Adam,
by which all creatures are made powerless,
وَلَهُ تَضَاءَلَتِ الْفُهُوْمُ
فَلَمْ يُدْرِكْهُ مِنَّا سَابِقٌ وَلَا لَاحِقٌ
فَرِيَاضُ الْمَلَكُوْتِ بِزَهْرِ جَمَالِهِ مُوْنِقَةٌ
وَحِيَاضُ الْجَبَرُوْتِ بِفَيْضِ أَنْوَارِهِ مُتَدَفِّقَةٌ
and blessings upon him before whom all understanding is diminished.
None of us totally comprehend him, whether in the past or future.
The gardens of spiritual kingdom blossom ornately with the resplendence of his beauty,
the reservoirs of the World of Dominion overflow with the outpouring of his light
وَلَا شَيْءَ
إِلَّا وَهُوَ بِهِ مَنُوْطٌ
إِذْ لَوْلَا الْوَاسِطَةُ لَذَهَبَ كَمَا قِيْلَ الْمَوْسُوْطُ
صَلَاةً تَلِيْقُ بِكَ مِنْكَ إِلَيْهِ
There is nothing
Except that that it is connected to him
Since if not for the means, the end – as has been said – would have gone.
So bless him with a prayer that is worthy of You, from You
كَمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُ سِرُّكَ الْجَامِعُ الدَّالُ عَلَيْكَ
وَحِجَابُكَ الْأَعْظَمُ الْقَائِمُ لَكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ
اَللَّهُمَّ أَلْحِقْنِيْ بِنَسَبِهِ
That which befits his stature
O Allah! Indeed he is Your all-encompassing secret that leads through You to You
And he is your Supreme Sentinel raised for You, between Your Hands,
Oh Allah! Connect me with his spiritual lineage,
وَحَقِّقْنِيْ بِحَسَبِهِ
وَعَرِّفْنِيْ إِيَّاهُ مَعْرِفَةً
أَسْلَمُ بِهَا مِنْ مَوَارِدِ الْجَهْلِ
وَأَكْرَعُ بِهَا مِنْ مَوَارِدِ الْفَضْلِ
Realise me through his excellence,
And grant me deep knowledge of him
- A knowledge through which I attain salvation from the streams of ignorance,
And by which I may drink to fullness from the streams of bounty.
وَاحْمِلْنِيْ عَلَى سَبِيْلِهِ إِلَى حَضْرَتِكَ
حَمْلاً مَحْفُوْفًا بِنُصْرَتِكَ
وَاقْذِفْ بِيْ عَلَى الْبَاطِلِ فَأَدْمَغَهُ
وَزُجَّ بِيْ فِيْ بِحَارِ الْأَحَدِيَّةِ
Carry me on his path to Your Presence
Encompassed by Your Victory
Strike through me at the falsity so that I may destroy it.
Plunge me into the sea of Absolute Oneness
وَانْشُلْنِيْ مِنْ أَوْحَالِ التَّوحِيْدِ
وَأَغْرِقْنِيْ فِي عَيْنِ بَحْرِ الْوَحْدَةِ
حَتَّى لَا أَرَى، وَلَا أَسْمَعَ، وَلَا أَجِدَ، وَلَا أُحِسَّ
إِلَّا بِهَا
Pull me out from the swamps of metaphorical Unity
Drown me in the Essence of the Ocean of Unicity
Until I neither see, nor hear, nor find, nor sense
Except through it
وَاجْعَلِ الْحِجَابَ الْأَعْظَمَ حَيَاةَ رُوحِي
وَرُوْحَهُ سِرَّ حَقِيْقَتِي
وَحَقِيْقَتَهُ جَامِعَ عَوَالِمِيْ
بِتَحْقِيْقِ الْحَقِّ الْأَوَّلِ
O Allah! Make the Supreme Sentinel the life of my spirit
And his soul the secret of my reality
And his reality the connector of my worlds
Through the realisation of the First Truth
يَا أَوَّلُ يَا آخِرُ، يَا ظَاهِرُ يَا بَاطِنُ
اِسْمَعْ نِدَائِيْ بِمَا سَمِعْتَ بِهِ نِدَاءَعَبْدِكَ سيدنا زَكَرِيَّا
وَانْصُرْنِيْ بِكَ لَكَ، وَأَيِّدْنِيْ بِكَ لَكَ
وَاجْمَعْ بَيْنِيْ وَبَيْنَكَ، وَحُلْ بَيْنِيْ وَبَيْنَ غَيْرِكَ
O First! O Last! O Manifest! O Hidden!
Hear my plea as you heard the plea of your servant Zakariyya
Grant me victory through You and for You, Support me through You and for You
Join me to You, Come between me and other than You.
إِنَّٱلَّذِي فَرَضَ عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لَرَآدُّكَ إِلَىٰ مَعَادٖۚ
رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحۡمَةٗ وَهَيِّئۡ لَنَا مِنۡ أَمۡرِنَا رَشَدٗا x3
Indeed He, Who ordained the Qur’an for you,
will return you to the station of your Ultimate Destiny [28:85]
O Lord grant us from Your Presence Mercy and endow us,
whatever our outward condition, with sure Guidance! [18:10] x3
رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا حَسَنَةٗ وَفِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ حَسَنَةٗ وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتَهُۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِيِّۚ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ صَلُّواْ عَلَيۡهِ وَسَلِّمُواْ تَسۡلِيمًا
Our Lord, give us the good in this world and the good in the Hereafter
and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." [2:201]
Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so].
O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace. [33:56]
سُبۡحَٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلۡعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
وَسَلَٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.
And peace upon the messengers.
And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. [37 : 180 – 182]
